1. Location and Boundaries
- District: Kollam (located approximately 12–15 km south of Kollam city).
- Transportation Route: National Highway 66 (NH 66) passes through this block panchayat.
2. Constituent Grama Panchayats The Ithikkara Block Panchayat consists of the following 5 Grama Panchayats:
- Chathannoor
- Adichanalloor
- Chirakkara
- Kalluvathukkal
- Poothakkulam
3. Topography and Water Bodies
- Ithikkara River: The primary geographical feature of this block panchayat is the 56 km long Ithikkara River. Originating from the hills near Kulathupuzha, the river flows through the Ithikkara region before emptying into Paravur Lake.
- Soil/Terrain: Falling under the midland region, the topography comprises a mix of hills, valleys, and paddy fields. Clay soil and laterite soil are widely found here.
- Proximity to Paravur Lake: Parts of the Poothakkulam and Kalluvathukkal panchayats lie close to Paravur Lake and coastal areas.
4. Agriculture and Land Use Due to the presence of the Ithikkara River, the area features fertile soil suitable for paddy cultivation, as well as crops like coconut, rubber, tubers, and cashew nuts.
